Alegria – 8 x 10 inch acrylic painting on Ampersand Gessobord panel
I am taking another quick online class, called Freeing Your Inner Frida. I am inspired by Frida’s story of making art, in spite of pain and hardship. And I also love her sense of style, her colorful jewelry, the flowers in her hair. While some of her art is not particularly my style, or even to my liking, I do think about her tenacity to paint amid the turmoil in her life.
I chose the name Alegria for the lady in my portrait, as it means “joy and happiness”. When I paint, I find that sense of joy and happiness, in spite of whatever turmoil the world around me may be in. There are many layers to this portrait, so there is a ton of texture beneath her beautiful face.
